This term, Year 2 will be focusing on 'The Great Fire of London' during History. We will learn all about life in the 17th Century, as well as what happened during and after the events of the fire. In Art, we will look at 'Colours and Shape' and in Science we'll be looking at 'Materials' and their uses. Our book this term is called 'The Way Home for Wolf' and it is all about a wolf called Wilf who begins to realise that we all need a helping hand from our friends sometimes.
This term, our Geography topic will be 'Under the Sea'. In Art, we will be looking at 'Colour, Shape and Texture' and in Science we will be focusing on 'Living Things & Their Habitat'.
For History this term, we are focusing on 'Significant People' such as Florence Nightingale. In Art, our topic is 'Portraits' and we are going to look at the features of a portrait as well as trying to do our own. In Science, we are going to be focusing on 'Plants' and how we can grow our own healthy one.
In Spring, Term 2, our class will be looking at 'Sensational Safari' during Geography. We will learn all about Kenya and the life and culture of the country. We will be learning about nature reserves, national parks, the Big 5 and the Maasai people. We will even create our own necklaces inspired by these people. Within Art, we will be learning about 'Landscapes'. We will look at different artists and their techniques, such as Monet and Van Gogh. Our Science topic this term is 'Animals Including Humans' and within this we will be looking at life cycles, our Eatwell Guide and basic needs that humans and animals need to survive. Our book this term is called 'Unplugged' and it is about a robot called Blip who is used to being plugged into her computer, until one day a power-cut strikes and she discovers that life outside is just as fun. As we learn about this, we will try out some argumentative writing as we are going to debate on whether or not it is better to be unplugged or plugged in.
This term, our book is called 'Wanted: The Perfect Pet'. It is about a boy who puts out an advertisement in a local paper for his perfect pet- a dog, however a lonely duck disguises himself and shows up at the boys door. In the end, the boy discovers that the duck is his perfect pet. As we look at this book, we are going to create our own advert for our perfect pet, and we will also use some persuasive writing to convince our family to let us get it. In History, our topic is 'Ancient Egypt' and our Art topic is 'Egyptian Art/Textiles'. Within Science, our topic is 'Working Scientifically' so we will be carrying out lots of fun experiments.
