YEAR 1

Celebration

We invited our parents to come and celebrate with us. We gathered with Year 2 and listened to ‘The Resurrection’ from the bible, we sang some hymns and went forth with a prayer.

Palm Sunday

We talked about Jesus arriving in Jerusalem and recognised that Palm Sunday is the start of Holy Week. We made our own banners to welcome Jesus using words from God's Story 2.

Opportunities

We talked about lent being a time we can learn and change. We then role played the different pictures from Church's Story 2.

Ash Wednesday

We talked about the 40 days of lent. Recognising that Ash Wednesday is the first day of lent. We know that lent is a time to remember Jesus and to grow into better people.

Celebration

We invited our parents to come and celebrate with us. We gathered with Year 2 and listened to ‘The Lord’s Supper’ from the Bible and Year 2 read some Eucharistic prayers.

Holy Communion

We talked about the chalice, host and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. We recognise the importance of the Holy Communion making us closer to Jesus and God and that we are doing it in memory of Jesus.

The Our Father

We talked about the preparation for receiving communion and the importance of saying the Our Father because God is father to everyone and loves everyone.

Celebration

We invited our parents to come and celebrate with us. We gathered with Year 2 and listened to some scripture from our topics. We responded with a song.

Jesus' Role

We listened to the story of Jesus in the Temple. We talked about the importance of this story and recognised that Simeon saw Jesus as the light of the world.

The Priest

We described what we saw in the picture from Church's Story 2 of the priest leading mass on a Sunday. We talked about the different coloured vestments he wears throughout the year.

Gathering at Church

We talked about the different people involved in delivering mass on a Sunday. Today we focussed on the greeters and the congregation.

Celebration

KS1 joined together to talk about our new knowledge and recognise the good that can come from this time of waiting.

The Annunciation

We talked about the things Mary would have to do whilst she was waiting for the birth of Jesus. We role-played the story of the Annunciation.

The Advent Wreath

We recognise the different elements of the Advent wreath and talked about the significance of each candle. We then assembled our own wreath.

Waiting

We recognise that we can feel different emotions depending on what we are waiting for. We talked about how waiting can be difficult but in a lot of joy.

The Story of Muhammad

We listened to the story of Muhammad. We talked about the signs of Muhammad being a holy man.

  • He cared about people
  • He was wise and fair
  • He wanted people to be equal
  • He was truthful, generous and sincere

Celebration

We celebrated and responded to what it is like to belong to many different groups and that Baptism is an invitation to belong to the Church family. We joined with Year 2 to share our learning.

The Light and Love of Jesus

We recognise the lit candle stands for the presence of Jesus. We made a collage of baptismal candles and said the 'Our Father' with actions.

Baptism in Church

We talked about the church and the font. We described what they looked like and then used our knowledge to design an invitation to a Baptism.

The Church Family

We recognise that Baptism is the first Sacrament. We talked about members of the Church family.

Jesus and the Children

 

We retold the story of Jesus and the Children.

We talked about how the children may have felt and what their conversation with Jesus would have been like.

Baptism is the Beginning

We recognise that Baptism is the beginning of life in the Church family. We looked at pictures form our own experiences of Baptism.

Belonging Knowledge Organiser

Moses and The Pharaoh

We retold the story of how Moses pleaded with the Pharaoh to let his people go. We recognise the great courage he had to do this.

Our Celebration

Today we celebrated our topic of Families by gathering with Year 2 and listening to each class talk about their learning during the topic. We listened to an extract from God's Story and responded with a prayer. We went forth with a quote.

God's Love

We went on an outdoor walk to recognise and appreciate everything God takes care of.

Taking Care of One Another

Today we role-played situations in which families take care of one another. We recognise that families show love and care for one another in different ways.

Our Families

We started our topic of 'Families' by sharing pictures with our friends of our very own families. We explore the love and care shown in our families, talking about how we give hugs, we share a home and we help each other.
