Advent 2022

Advent

Advent week 1

As we celebrate our first Sunday of advent we light the first purple candle (Prophecy Candle) which represents hope.

The children gathered for a whole school collective worship to light the candle and share the message from this week's Gospel.

"So stay awake, because you do not know the day when your master is coming." (Matthew 24:42)

The children sang a hymn called Hope and shared a prayer together from the CAFOD advent reflection.

Advent week 2

For the second Sunday of advent we light the next purple candle (Bethlehem Candle) which represents Faith.

The children gathered for a whole school collective worship to light the candle and share the message from this week's Gospel.

"A voice calls in the wilderness: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.” (Matthew 3:3)

The children took time to quietly reflect on the hymn 'Little Donkey' which sings of Mary's journey to Bethlehem for the coming of Jesus Christ.

Advent week 3

For the third Sunday of advent we light the pink candle (The Shepherd's Candle) which represents Joy.

"The blind see again, and the lame walk… and the Good News is proclaimed to the poor."
(Matthew 11:5)

Advent week 4

For the final Sunday of advent we light the third purple candle (The Angel's Candle) which represents peace.

"When Joseph woke up he did what the angel of the Lord had told him to do: he took his wife to his home."
(Matthew 1:24)

The children joined in with the hymn ''come and join the celebration" which sings of the celebration for the birth of Jesus.
