Keep up to date with all the latest news and events happening in school.
There is a proposed change to the school day at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Primary School.
The government has updated its guidance on the length of the school day, requiring all mainstream schools to offer a minimum of 32.5 hours per week.
In order to comply with this directive, we propose to extend our school day by an additional 25 minutes.
Here are the proposed changes: The school day would officially begin at 8:45 am for registration (instead of 8:55 am), and end at 3:15 pm (instead of 3:00 pm).
These adjustments aim to ensure that we align with the government's regulations while minimising disruption to the overall structure of the school day. The changes are intended to provide additional teaching and learning time, support pupils’ progress, and allow for greater flexibility in delivering a broad and balanced curriculum.
Although this change is Government-led, we believe it will have a positive impact on both attainment and the overall school experience. We appreciate that these changes may affect a small minority in terms of childcare or working arrangements. For this reason, parents are invited to give any feedback in writing to admin@ourladyqueenofpeaceprimary.co.uk
Please share any comments, questions, or concerns regarding the proposed changes by Friday 22nd May 2026.
The Governing Body are aware of this proposal and the government’s expectations. Your responses will be considered and, subject to the Governors’ formal approval, the new school day timings will come into effect from September 2026. The information in this letter has also been sent to the local authority.

Our school will be taking part in Hello Yellow on Friday 10th October (World Mental Health Day) to raise awareness and funds for YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity for young people’s mental health.
The number of young people in need of mental health support is growing faster than ever, and this is why HELLO YELLOW matters more than ever. We’re taking this opportunity as a school community to come together and show our pupils we are with them and that they’re never alone with their mental health.
We will be taking part by wearing something YELLOW on the day. Don’t worry if your child hasn’t got anything that colour – it will be a non-uniform day.
We ask if parents and carers could please consider making a donation to YoungMinds via our fundraising page for Hello Yellow HERE
Most importantly, we want to share the resources which YoungMinds offer to support parents and carers if you ever need help and advice to support your children. This includes:
• online resources https://www.youngminds.org.uk/parent/
• a phone line, open 9.30am-4pm (0808 802 5544)
• an online chat for parents and carers to speak to trained professionals if you’re concerned about your children’s mental health https://www.youngminds.org.uk/parents-helpline/
Together we can help young people feel seen, supported and never alone.
Thank you

We are delighted to announce that our CSI inspection was a huge success and the report is now available for your perusal. Our school was graded 'Outstanding' in all 9 areas. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the whole school community for the part you play in making our school so special 'The small school with a big heart'.
The school is due to have an inspection undertaken by the Catholic Schools Inspectorate on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th April. The inspection is both a diocesan and a statutory responsibility.
In the organisation of the Church, the bishop is the ‘first teacher’ in the diocese with responsibility for the formation and education of his people, with particular responsibilities in schools. The inspectors working for the Inspectorate act on his behalf to fulfil this responsibility.
The purpose of inspection is to report to and advise the bishop on the quality of the Catholic life and mission of the school, of religious education and of collective worship. Of course, it also stands to inform parents and the wider Catholic community.
Inspectors will observe learning and acts of worship, talk to staff and pupils, analyse data, and discuss emerging issues with the school’s leadership. The inspection culminates in a written report that will be sent to you.
The view of parents is very important, and we shall be sharing with the inspectors any evidence we have of parents’ views of the school. The inspectors would also like to hear directly from you. We appreciate that we have not given you very much time, but it would be helpful if you could complete the questionnaire, which can be accessed https://forms.office.com/e/eyucfrDp5V. Responses to the questionnaire go directly to the inspectors, are anonymous, and individual responses cannot be identified.
Thank you for taking the time to complete the questionnaire. We look forward to sharing the outcomes of the inspection when the report has been received.
All school's across Sefton will be running a mini marathon to support the #kNOwknifecrime to raise funds for bleeding control kits. Our school is part of the STRAND partnership and all donations will be pooled together in hope that we raise enough for every school to have a bleeding control kit and cabinet for their local area. We strive to make our community safer for all our children.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated and can be donated via the following link: https://www.cashforkidsgive.co.uk/.../strand-partnership/.
Our World Book Day theme will be Bedtime Stories. On Thursday 7th March, we are asking the children to wear their pyjamas (substantial ones, not nighties or short sets) to school and bring in their favourite bedtime story book.
During the day all children will take part in book-related class activities and share their stories with each other. This is always an enjoyable day for our children, without parents going to any expense or trouble finding costumes.
We thank you for your support.
