Autumn 1
During this term Year 1 will be studying the book 'Rapunzel' written by Bethan Woollvin. The book being a twist on the traditional tale, will give us lots of opportunities for great writing. We will be drafting and noting ideas and vocabulary, sequencing sentences to form short stories and writing for a range of different purposes. In Science we will be exploring and experimenting with everyday materials and then exploring how fantastic humans are by using our senses. We will be spending a lot of time outdoors with your Art topic of 'Nature Art' building sculptures from natural materials inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. Together we will become historians and learn all about 'The Gunpowder Plot' leading up to the celebration of Guy Fawkes' failed plan.
Autumn 2
During this term Year 1 will be studying the book 'Winters Sleep A Hibernation Story' written by Alex Morss, Cinyee Chiu and Sean Taylor. The book is a fictional story with non-fictional elements that allow us to learn lot of information and write some excellent explanatory writing. In Science we are continuing to explore our senses and observing the environment around us within our school grounds. We get to take ourselves outside to do some fieldwork in our local area to help us in our Geography learning. Our Design and Technology project involves lots of research about fireworks and how we would design our own.
Spring 1
In Spring 1 will be studying the book 'Beegu' written by Alexis Deacon. The book is a fictional story based on an alien called Beegu that crashes on Earth, this will provide us with lots of excellent writing opportunities such as writing letters and poetry. In Science we will begin looking at animals and different animal groups. We are honoured to be learning about Kings and Queens in our History lessons ending the topic with a very royal banquet of our own.
