Year 3

Homework📚

Year 3 will be set their homework on Fridays and will need to be completed by the following Thursday. Each week the children will have a maths and grammar activity. Reading books will be given out every Monday and are to be returned by Friday with reading record cards. We ask that parents/guardians complete the reading cards provided ensuring that they are signed and dated. This will help us to track pupils reading outside of school and better support them.

Behaviour

We have introduced a new behaviour system called 'steps-to-success'. Children who show excellent behaviour can reach 'Sky is the limit', and children who maintain good behaviour end up in the 'Green for Growth' zone.

Dojo winner

Dojo points are given to the children if they have displayed excellent effort and behaviour. If a child reaches 100 dojos, they receive a special prize from our dojo reward box!

Autumn Term

Our novel this term will be "Stig of the Dump', a wonderful story written by Clive King which will run alongside our History topic of the Stone Age this term. In Geography we will be learning all about Mountains and their features. In our Science module "Amazing Bodies". PE this term will remain on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Spring Term
During the Spring term, Year 3 will be studying the book 'The Iron Man' Melding science fiction with a fairy tale.

We will be exploring Volcanoes and Earthquakes in Geography. Our history focus will be the Romans in Britain. We will learn about their monarchs, lifestyle and the Roman Army. In Science the children are completing the unit 'The Power of Forces'.

In Music our theme is Chinese New Year. Using the story of Chinese New Year as a stimulus, pupils: revise key musical terminology, play and create pentatonic melodies, compose a piece of music in a group using layered melodies and finally perform their finished pieces.

ICT - During this unit, learners will become familiar with the terms ‘text’ and ‘images’ and understand that they can be used to communicate messages. They will use desktop publishing software and consider careful choices of font size, colour and type to edit and improve premade documents. Learners will be introduced to the terms ‘templates’,

Science- In this lesson we explored a range of materials to identify which are magnetic and which are not. This builds on work in KS1 around the properties of materials.
