Early years/ Foundation stage
In the Foundation Stage, RWI is used for phonics and writing. Pupils begin to study phonetic knowledge with increasing speed and accuracy identifying key sounds and focussing on letter formation using CVC words.
Key Stage 1
At Keys Stage One, Children follow the RWI programme of study and apply their phonetic knowledge with increasing speed and accuracy to unfamiliar words drawing on the skills acquired from EYFS. They will continue to learn new grapheme-phoneme correspondences and apply such knowledge to their written work, taking note of common exception words
