Year 3 will be set their homework on Fridays and will need to be completed by the following Thursday. Each week the children will have a maths and/or grammar activity.
Behaviour
We use Class Dojo to help monitor behaviour and support communication with parents.
It’s also a useful platform for keeping families informed about school events and activities, making it easier to stay connected with what’s happening in school.
Dojo winner
Dojo points are given to the children if they have displayed excellent effort and behaviour. At the end of the week the child with the most dojo points receives a prize.
Autumn Term

Our first story in Literacy is How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth – a fun and exciting book that the children have really enjoyed. This term, we will also be reading the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by Anthony Browne, exploring its characters, themes, and rich illustrations.
History
In Year 3, we will be learning about the Stone Age. The children will be exploring how people lived, hunted, and gathered food during this time. They will also learn about Stone Age homes, tools, and how life changed as people discovered farming. It will be an exciting journey into the past!
Science
In Science, Year 3 are learning all about The Human Body. We’ve been exploring the different body parts, their functions, and how they work together to keep us healthy. The children are especially enjoying learning about the skeleton and muscles!
Religious Education.
The "RED" curriculum for Year 3 is the new Religious Education Directory for Catholic schools. It focuses on the theme of celebrating the Eucharist and helps children learn about Catholic traditions, Christian stories, and other major world religions. Pupils explore topics such as Creation, the Eucharist, and the Trinity, linking them to stories like the Last Supper and the feeding of the five thousand. The curriculum also encourages a deeper understanding of faith and respect for others.
Spring Term
Literacy
In Literacy, Year 3 will be reading Matilda by Roald Dahl, which is already inspiring some exciting and imaginative writing opportunities. The children will really enjoy exploring the story and its wonderful characters. Later this term, they will also read How the Stars Came to Be, a beautiful tale that introduces storytelling from different cultures.
Geography
In Year 3 this term, we will be learning about volcanoes and their features, such as lava, magma, craters, and ash clouds. The children will explore how volcanoes are formed, where they are found in the world, and what happens when they erupt. It’s an exciting topic that links closely with our Geography and Science learning!
