Year 4

Year 4- Mrs Watson

We have a fun and action packed year ahead, filled with plenty of exciting learning opportunities !

Autumn 1

Literacy- We will be studying the text-‘Stone Age Boy’, written by Satoshi Kitamura.

The children will have the opportunity to write a diary entry, a letter, a lost poster and a piece of Stone Age Poetry.

Maths- This will focus upon place value- representing, partitioning, comparing, ordering and rounding numbers to 10,000.

Following this we will move onto addition and subtraction; adding and subtracting up to two 4 digit numbers with no exchange and exchanging.

Our maths lessons will be largely centred around our multiplication tables and related division facts, in preparation for our times tables check in June. Please ensure that you are logging on regularly to TTRS.

Science- We will be grouping and classifying living things, collecting and analysing data, in addition to beginning our topic on states of matter.

History- We will be examining how children’s lives changed over time by investigating leisure, health and work in the past, focusing upon the Tudors and Victorians.

Art- Our topic this half term is Drawing: Exploring tone, texture and proportion to create realistic and expressive drawings, inspired by artists such as Sarah Graham and Nicola Mc Bride.

R.E.- Creation and Covenant-studying Abraham and considering how he changed through acting on his faith and entering into a covenant with God.

P.E.- We will be learning the fundamental skills to play the game of Dodgeball.
