There is a proposed change to the school day at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Primary School.
The government has updated its guidance on the length of the school day, requiring all mainstream schools to offer a minimum of 32.5 hours per week.
In order to comply with this directive, we propose to extend our school day by an additional 25 minutes.
Here are the proposed changes: The school day would officially begin at 8:45 am for registration (instead of 8:55 am), and end at 3:15 pm (instead of 3:00 pm).
These adjustments aim to ensure that we align with the government's regulations while minimising disruption to the overall structure of the school day. The changes are intended to provide additional teaching and learning time, support pupils’ progress, and allow for greater flexibility in delivering a broad and balanced curriculum.
Although this change is Government-led, we believe it will have a positive impact on both attainment and the overall school experience. We appreciate that these changes may affect a small minority in terms of childcare or working arrangements. For this reason, parents are invited to give any feedback in writing to admin@ourladyqueenofpeaceprimary.co.uk
Please share any comments, questions, or concerns regarding the proposed changes by Friday 22nd May 2026.
The Governing Body are aware of this proposal and the government’s expectations. Your responses will be considered and, subject to the Governors’ formal approval, the new school day timings will come into effect from September 2026. The information in this letter has also been sent to the local authority.
